boice.net Delivers the Network Infrastructure for the new KFC Yum! Center in Louisville Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, KY – December 28, 2010 – The KFC Yum! Center is the cornerstone of the revitalization of downtown Louisville, Kentucky and a true state-of-the-art facility. With structural steel that weighs the equivalent of 746 Asian elephants and a center-hung scoreboard that equals the weight of 11 Ford Explorers, it’s definitely built to withstand the energy of the crowds that will attend basketball games, concerts and conventions.

boice.net is extremely honored to play a role in bringing KFC Yum! Center to life. Based on  expertise and the core values the company stands for, boice.net was selected to fulfill  a comprehensive technology contract that included the installation of a cutting-edge network infrastructure design, comprehensive network and physical security and a wireless application integration strategy, all enabled by Cisco Systems technology.

The scope and scale of the project has kept boice.net employees busy for the last 120 days.  Everyone in the company pitched in and contributed to the work including the account manager, administrative support, engineers and the company’s leadership team. During the course of the project, boice.net designed and implemented the network infrastructure that activated over  four miles of fiber optic cable to support event applications now, and well into the future. The beauty of fiber optics is that it allows almost any application to traverse across it, preparing the center for future technology innovations. In addition to implementing all of the voice and data technology, boice.net designed extensive network security to ensure the integrity of the network remains protected 24/7/365. boice.net also installed Wi-Fi  throughout the 721,762 square foot facility and the 1.4 acre outdoor plaza.

“boice.net and The KFC Yum! Center have developed a great partnership, “ says  Alicia Dunlap, Director - Division of Information Systems for the Kentucky State Fair Board. “boice.net was selected through a competitive bid process to install and provision both a Cisco Unified Communication Solution and Cisco Networking Solution for the new State of the Art KFC Yum! Center.  It has been a pleasure to work with boice.net. They were great on timelines and were flexible as well.  One of the benefits of the project was that boice.net is a local company, with local Information technology talent, and the necessary resources needed to implement and execute these large projects.”

One of the many unique aspects of the KFC Yum! Center is the Norton Healthcare Immediate Care Center.  Norton Healthcare is the first of its kind to incorporate an immediate care center in a multipurpose venue that will offer healthcare to the public and is the only medical facility of its kind in downtown Louisville.  Because Norton Healthcare was already a boice.net customer, assessing their connectivity needs was simpler, enabling synergies that kept the project moving smoothly.

In fact, when asked what the biggest surprise of the project was, Tom Medford, boice.net’s Enterprise Account Executive said it was how smoothly everything went given the aggressive timelines and the intricacies of seamless coordination between vendors.

“For boice.net, being involved in this was more than a job or a project,” states president and CEO, Bill Hall. “To be involved in positioning Louisville to bring long-term economic gains to revitalize downtown—as well as promote the future of Kentucky—is a source of pride for each and every boice.net employee. “

More than just a project. Beyond their involvement in the initial construction of the KFC Yum! Center, boice.net provides ongoing engineering support services to the facility staff. When the Eagles recently performed the arena’s inaugural event, boice.net engineers were there, working behind the scenes to ensure the show rocked for the crowd. With future bookings already forecasting an economic impact in the tens of millions, the KFC Yum! Center is definitely the jewel of downtown that the community needs to take Louisville aggressively into the future as a coveted event venue.
